You know what?

There’s a whole lot of misinformation on what it takes to start and maintain a successful business, which is why it’s easy to feel defeated when you’re doing everything “right” and still not getting results.

Before I learned how to run my business MY way, I tried every guide and article I could find.

Expert #1 would say do outsource and stick to your area of genius and expert #2 would say invest in an expensive mastermind.

limiting beliefs

Many people think that taking out a huge loan or spending your life's savings is the best way to start a business because without working capital, you just can't grow.

Others believe that you have to hustle and grind until you reach the top, making it harder for you to sustain success.

What I've learned about Limiting Beliefs:

I learned that even working capital, grinding 80 hours a week and investing in high ticket coaches isn't always the answer to having a successful business.

You absolutely should NOT rely on others to make your business successful!

From bank loans and credit card debt, outsourcing marketing efforts and paying high ticket coaches, I tried it all to make my business a success.

No matter what I did, I still couldn’t free myself from the cycle of creating content, grinding and promoting my business, spending money to make it “grow” getting burned out and disappearing for months at a time and then starting the cycle all over again.

Once I finally started asking myself what I really wanted for my business snd what parts really light me up and who I actually wanted to work with, I was able to narrow my niche down and start actually making money.

You can do it too!

Read on for some sneaky limiting beliefs that may be holding you back from seeing the success (either financially or other) that you're wanting, and how to turn them into your superpowers.

Limiting Belief #1: “I don't have enough money to invest in my business.”

This limiting belief can stem from a fear of financial risk or the perception that investing in the business is too expensive or risky.

Many small business owners may feel like they don't have enough money to invest in their business. Particularly those who are just starting out. You may be afraid to take on debt, or may not want to risk using you personal savings to fund your business.

However, it's important to remember that investing in the business can be crucial for long-term success. This investment may include things like marketing campaigns, upgrading equipment or technology, hiring employees, or expanding the business. Without these investments, the business may struggle to grow and generate revenue. BUT from my personal experience, investing in these things too early can lead you down a path of self destruction.

The key is to not be afraid to invest in yourself and your business. Youn have to make sure you're investing in the right pieces of your business at the right time. This is something I cover extensively inside the Get it Done Academy because although every decision I made was an amazing learning experience, I want to help you keep as much of that hard earned money as you can.

How to turn it into your superpower

First, challenge your belief. After all, it’s just a belief and you have no proof that it’s reality (spoiler: it’s NOT!)

Ask yourself why you think you need a ton of capital to get your business started. Take a minute to reflect on why you might think you need a lot of money and resources to get your business started. Is it because you've binge watched every episode of Shark Tank like I have?

But it doesn’t have to be this way! The key to having a successful business is just getting started. Most times, it's the sweat equity and not the financial capital that gets a business started.

You don’t have to take action now. Just let it sit with you and try to broaden your perspective.  Keep challenging yourself.

Limiting Belief #2 – “I don't have enough time to focus on my business.”

“I’ll get to starting my business as soon as life slows down.”

Sound familiar?

We all have a list of things we need to do, and in what order we want to do them.

But if you’ve been procrastinating on a starting a business for months or even years, it’s probably time to re-prioritize.

Do you really need to have it all together before you tackle starting your biz? Or is it that starting your business scares you?

It’s common to put off things we’re not “ready” for.

But you know what?

The things that scare you are the things that will change you the most.

Starting a business is an act of courage and perseverance. It can lead to significant personal growth and development in both professional and personal areas. It's easy to be comfortable with what you know, but it takes bravery to step outside your comfort zone and try something new.

When you take this leap, you open yourself up to a world of possibilities and experiences that can change your life in ways you never thought possible. By taking on the challenge of starting a business, you experience moments of fear. BUT also immense joy as you build something from nothing and create a life for yours that can be truly fulfilling.

How to turn it into your superpower

Here are 2-3 steps that you can take to turn the limiting belief “I don't have enough time to focus on my business” into an empowering belief:

  1. Prioritize tasks: One of the biggest challenges for small business owners is managing their time effectively. To overcome this, you can prioritize tasks based on their level of importance and urgency. This can help you focus on the most critical tasks and ensure that they get done in a timely manner.
  2. Delegate responsibilities: Small business owners often try to do everything themselves. This can lead to burnout and a lack of focus on core business activities. By delegating responsibilities to employees or contractors, you can free up your time to focus on higher level tasks and strategic planning.
  3. Set goals and deadlines: Setting specific goals and deadlines can help you stay focused and motivated. This can include short-term goals such as completing a project by a certain date, or long-term goals such as reaching a specific revenue target. By setting concrete goals and deadlines, you can create a clear roadmap for achieving success and stay motivated along the way.

Yyou can shift you mindset from one of scarcity and limited time to one of abundance and empowerment. You can start to view time as a valuable resource that can be managed and optimized with the right strategies and tools.

limiting belief

Limiting Belief #3: “I'm not experienced enough to succeed.”

How many times have you gotten excited about starting a business, then immediately thought, “Nah, I won’t be able to do it. I don’t have enough experience.”

You’re not alone. This is another belief that comes from a place of fear, and we all have them.

When you’re about to try something new, you picture all the things that can go wrong.

The problem with this belief is that it can prevent more empowering beliefs from forming if you’re not aware of them.

This limiting belief might be that you are not capable of achieving your goals, or that you do not have the skills or capabilities to succeed. This could lead to feelings of inadequacy and a lack of self-confidence, resulting in a reluctance to take risks and try new things. Or it could lead to self-doubt and perfectionism, as you become afraid of making mistakes or failing. This could prevent you from taking action on your dreams and ambitions, leading to a feeling of discouragement and stagnation.

How to turn it into your superpower

Imagine another time you tried something new. How did it go?

You can absolutely start an online business!

  1. Seek out resources to increase knowledge and understanding of running a business. Taking a course or attending workshops are great examples.
  2. Research the success stories of other entrepreneurs who have started businesses with limited experience. Use them as inspiration for their journey.

For example:

I thought I couldn’t do it but took the first little step and today everything has changed.

I started off by buying my first website domain and I knew that investing a couple hundred dollars on a website host and domain meant I actually had to do something with my business. That one task led me to creating a list of other tasks. I knew what I needed to do to keeping moving forward and one by one, I checked them off.
