What is a life coach?

Being a life coach is a pretty broad term used by people who offer a multitude of services. The possibilities are really endless when it comes to being considered a life coach. They can help you with health and wellness goals, business goals, healing from trauma, or even spirituality. Life coaches help provide clarity and help you determine what you want in life. Once you know what it is you would like to gain from your life, they help keep you accountable and take the steps you need to get there. Life coaches will help you  to improve your relationships, careers, and day-to-day lives. Throughout the process, they will help you bridge the gaps between what is keeping you from achieving your goals and crushing them… A coach’s main focus will be on looking where you currently are and helping you advance in the designated area that you want to work on.

What isn’t a life coach?

A life coach isn’t a therapist. They are not qualified to diagnose or treat mental illnesses. They also do not provide you with advice. Their job is to help you find the right mindset to see different options available to you. They will not tell you what you should do.

How to Find the Right One

Awesome, so now that we have determined what a life coach is and why you need one, how do you actually find one? There are a few things you need to look for when you're considering hiring a coach. Are they accountable, strategic thinker, good listener, and goal oriented? Do they have high expectations and are always up for a challenge? Most coaches offer a free strategy session or clarity call that gives you an opportunity to get to know them a little more before hiring them. Use this call to not only express your needs for a life coach but to also ask questions about your coach. This will allow you to gauge your compatibility with the coach. A quick Google or Instagram search will give you ample coaches to choose from. Be sure that you do your research! You want a coach who is a good fit, not just the first one you come across.
